christmas lights....

i love the tacky lights of christmas time. i just wish more people would put them up. And while i admit i used hate the inflatables with a passion and had a desire to drive around ninja-assisan style and shoot them with bb guns. now they have grown on me so ....abilene lets sparkle and get our tacky on!.....

Exactly how much crap will Americans take from China?

Inferior products, egregious human rights violations, and mid level officials bashing the dollar; when will enough be enough? As our relationship with china becomes more and more connected it also becomes more strained. It started with pet food, then Thomas the tank, tires, the ever-popular antifreeze toothpaste, and the latest development, date rape aqua-dots. And that’s just the crizap they are trying to sell me, I personally am far more concerned about labor camps and re-education programs, the lack of personal family planning rights, and environmental problems. China is horribly polluting the Yangtze River its “lifeline” with dredging, industrial pollutants, and over fishing, costing the earth one of its oldest aquatic mammals, the Yangtze River dolphin earlier this year. The Chinese stock market is precariously teetering on the verge of a huge correction from a feeding frenzy of IPO’s and over-valuation, due to government manipulations of the exchange rate and refusal to appreciate the Yuan. We have a country with mobile death chambers for its citizenry, but as a government won’t make efforts to regulate its manufacturing sector. China’s Boom is being built at the expense of millions of Chinese citizens who do not have many fundamental rights, and that bothers me. So what’s a gal to do? Well from now on I am making sure all of my inferior crap goods come from India. Oh, wait a minute……..

Just to catch you up...

Well i have been on and off so far.....but here is a quick run-down of the last few days..

-it seems that an applebees is going in by the new wal-mart

-apparently there was a food debacle at the cristmas carousel -not much of it, and bad hors d'oeurves.

-Halloween had a lot of great activities for kids, but less for adults this year due to the weeknight

-cahoots is closing up shop, ill miss those hush-puppies

-sadly no dia de los muertos celebrations


im still hanging around planning on trying to find some delicous crab sometime soon -thats harder than it looks in abilene, so wish me luck

ok ...i know its a stretch but you think to yourself it could be a good show right?... Well it was ..lets say -not good.
it was bad bad bad... bad sets, bad writing, bad intrepretation. it was however diverting. and i had a good time but it had little to do with the show. Lets hope the next one is better.

running down a dvd.....

is netflix the only way to get unusual dvds in Abilene. I am wanting to watch the tom petty dvd aptly titled "Running down a dream" I will probably buy it but thought I would rent it......well its nowhere to be found.....

ITS CRAPTASTIC!

ok so im not perez hilton or anything... but its harder than you think comming up with this crap......

having said that: heres todays craptacular blog.

As a person who tries to be as environmentally freindly as possible i am always watching for others like myself... not complete kashi-luvin wierdos who only wear burlap underwear, but normal people who occaisonally feel bad about the disgusting amounts of trash that we (americans) produce and try to do better.
I am pleased to announce that my prius count is up to about 7, i think i double counted a dark blue one, but im sure there are a couple i missed, so its pretty close. I have the urge to waive at the prius drivers, but since I'm not one im sure they would think i was an idiot. So props to all you guys in A-town driving around in your prius's (prii?). i myself am holding out for the next generation of suv hybrids so i can be totally ridiculous about the whole thing. But I did change all my lightbulbs to those swirly ones, mainly because leonardo dicaprio told me too..... but whats done is done.. My next hope for abilene is maybe a Bio-Willy station....because lets face it a lot of us drive diesels or have one around and it would totally rock to be able to use some bio-diesel. So Willie if your reading this we need you in Abilene.

Neighbors

I was listening to npr today and heard a story about a lady who was in her bathroom as her plumbing started to go crazy and was arrested for cursing out her own plumbing. This struck me as odd. Her neighbor was a police officer who arrested her for disorderly conduct. I wondered if this could happen in abilene. I have had many neighbors here-and have liked most of them. I have lived near acu sub-t guys, ministers and a lot of great families, and Id like to think that if any of them ever overheard me cursing my toilet they would come over and ask what was up, not haul me into jail.

just a post script I encourage all to listen to NPR its the quickest way to sound smart (even if your not).....its on 87.9 kacu

hambriento en Abilene

One thing I have always liked about Abilene is the cool local somewhat funky places to eat. It all started for me circa 1991 when someone dared us to go eat at the juicy pig -(which was later torn down due to some drug related drama, if memory serves) we went in had a soda and a sandwich. since then i always love to eat at a local spot if possible. So I will admit i am not the Anthony Bourdain of Abilene but i do love some great food. so here are some of my favorite pics....

now i have to mention that although i havent been at cypress st. in a while i had some duck there once that i still dream about so they have to get my vote.

and a shout out to little panda on rebecca not as much for the food but for the cool staff and way cute delivery guys.

im sure i missed tons of great places but lets not overlook our local joints.

So Heres the thing

i am starting this blog because i dont think anyone ever has anything valid to say about life in Abilene.

o sure there is a lot said about life in abilene texas but a lot of it is from crazy people, and i think that abilene has a lot of cool undertones that are left un explored, so having said that here i go delving into the world of the blog.

I can only hope that a person or 2 will read this thing and that perhapse one of them finds me amusing. Im not holding my breath.
